Whoa. I did not realize I’ve neglected this blog for over a month! My last entry was December 5th. Now it’s 15 days into the new year. Sorry for the absence! I’ve actually been meaning to blog since last week but I kept putting it off (and playing games on Facebook instead). We’re also having a very nice cold spell here in the Philippines– perfect for snuggling under the covers instead of doing work. Yesterday it was so cold I didn’t have to turn on the electric fan the whole day.
And I was wearing a sweater inside our house.
In a tropical country.
*jaw drops*

One of my goals this year is to overhaul this website. I’ve been using a premade Wordpress template for this site (which I tweaked and tweaked until I got a migraine– damn PHP) and while it serves the purpose of letting me showcase my work, I’ve gotten tired of it. On my next site overhaul (ten, twenty years from now, at the rate I’m going) I’m looking to try and make my own web template and design. Ha! Better get out my Dreamweaver installer CD and wipe the dust off my HTML for Dummies…

Daily Doodles 009/365 - I has turdle

I started a 365 project for myself this year. I resolve to doodle for at least ten minutes daily. I started last January 5th and I’ve missed a couple of days already (because I’m rewatching my Desperate Housewives DVDs and can’t stop at just two episodes a day) but I’ve been going back and doodling for each day I missed. I think it’s a really great exercise; I’m also trying to draw less cutesy stuff (which I really like but they don’t challenge me at all) and aiming to draw more realistically. Making my ten-minute doodle is part of my daily schedule now and I feel weird when it’s near the end of the day and I haven’t done my drawing yet.

Like now. So I’m off to do my drawing…

P.S. By the way, if you’ve noticed (or not), my Etsy shop has disappeared from the sidebar on the right. That’s because I’m in the process of closing it down and moving to another shop with new items. Expect that sometime this month or the next. FYI!

IF: punchline

A quite literal take on Illustration Friday’s theme: Punchline.

I drew this on Facebook’s Graffiti, a simple paint application with an opacity-enabled brush as its most advanced feature. I love drawing on that thing. You can send drawings to yourself or to people on your friends list. You get a canvas the size of the one above, and when you’re done it’s resized to roughly a 315×150 pixel canvas and displayed on your profile (or a friend’s). It’s fun. I’ve been making little doodles there for the past two days (can you tell I’ve been veeerrry productive?) and since I’m already drawing there, why not take up IF’s challenge? i haven’t done IF for months and thought this would be a perfect opportunity to jump back in.

Graffiti

Thought I’d share with you the other doodles I’ve made so far. The bears are based on this bear character I’ve been drawing since college– I love that little bear. I’m always drawing him in different poses. I’m thinking of naming it Bernie Barga, which is a poke at an old local singer/actress here in the Philippines named Vernie Varga.

The turtles were made for my boyfriend Don, a turtle lover. Owee and Ishi are his pet turtles. The real-life Owee likes hitching a ride on Ishi’s back. I sent the doodle to him but he hasn’t approved it on his profile yet.

All the drawings were painstakingly made with an optical mouse because I’ve been too lazy to bring out my pen tablet. Soon, soon…

I actually don’t see the point of Facebook; I joined it out of curiosity last year but found the whole thing utterly confusing and completely meaningless (what is the point of sending virtual drinks and superpoking each other senseless?). I deactivated my account but reactivated it just recently, thinking I can get a few hits by plugging my website there. Now that I’ve stumbled onto Graffiti, it looks like my profile on Facebook’s there to stay, if only for the Graffiti application!

edit: Here’s a flash movie of the drawing process for IF: Punchline. If you see a static image, just right-click and press “rewind.” If that doesn’t work, move the position slider back to the beginning :)
