Illustration Friday: Routine

Sometimes I’m weirded out by what my mind produces. This is one of those times. I just came across my friend’s photo of a grassy lawn with people blurred in the background (from our photorun last weekend) and thought that would be a good background canvas for an illustration. It looked like an ideal spot for a bunch of monsters to practice their interpretative dance routine.

Illustration Friday: Sour

For Illustration Friday’s Sour theme. As they say, there’s no use in crying over spilt milk. Especially if it’s milk gone sour.

Comments will be appreciated! :)

My shirt design up for scoring on Threadless

Monster Sushi on Threadless!

A little over a week ago I submitted my Monster Sushi illustration for a t-shirt design over at Threadless. It’s been approved for scoring and I would really appreciate it if you head on over there to vote! A high overall score helps the Threadless team in deciding which shirts to print and a printed design wins the designer $2000 freakin’ dollars. That’s big money when converted to Pesos; equivalent to around seven months worth of rent on my condo!

So please vote and vote 5 ;) You will need to register after voting (if you don’t already have an account with them) to make your vote count. Registering isn’t that much of a drag because Threadless is a cool site anyway where you can rate fantastic shirt designs and if they get printed, you have the option to buy the shirt(s) you voted for. So head on over there and vote for Monster Sushi!

IF: Fierce (revised)

A last-minute submission for Illustration Friday!

I dawdled for the longest time thinking of what to draw for the theme, “fierce.” I was toying around with the idea of drawing Ben Stiller from Zoolander in his “You’re an animal, yeah!” poses during the photoshoot scene, but when I sat down to draw it I realized I left the pen for my pen tablet at my other house. So, yeah. Idea scrapped.

I thought of doing a digital collage instead– I’ve never done anything like that before and wanted to try. My idea was to do a huge, fierce cat attacking a city. I sketched out my idea first in Photoshop.

LOL, srsly. That’s what my preliminary sketch looked like. Well, the image above obviously did not turn out that way as I scoured through stock.exchg and different photos presented themselves to me and changed how the final image was going to look like. I came across a picture of those waving gold cats which supposedly bring the owner luck. It’s usually found in Chinese stores and locally, in Filipino establishments next to a statuette of the child Jesus (which I find ironic). Anyway, I thought an oversized gold cat would be more funny than an actual cat so I used that instead. And while the cat in the picture looks like it’s attacking the city due to its daunting size, it’s actually not fierce or mean-spirited but is just waving hello and bringing good luck to all the (bewildered) citizens.

And I just checked, I did make it to the deadline. I’m the second to the last person to submit before they changed the topic. Heehee.

Creatures in My Apartment

Last weekend a couple of my friends and I (plus my boyfriend) got together at our friend Yam’s new-ish condo in Makati for a little housewarming and to check out a local art event at the park nearby. Her unit was charming, cozy and was just my type. I spent some time taking pics of her place (joking her condo would fit right in with Apartment Therapy), including this picture with my friend Gail and a cute stand lamp which was just begging to have a face drawn on it.
